Consultation

If you are in the general Bristol area, projects begin with an extensive consultation to ensure that the design will reflect your needs and aspirations. If you are further away we can consult by e-mail and telephone and in practice this has been proven to be extremely effective with clients as far away from Bristol as Scotland and Canada. We will work to incorporate existing design considerations, such as your company colours, letter head or logo. We are also comfortable with a "blank canvas" to develop a web site for you, which will be offered to you for approval as the project progresses.

Hand coding

We take great pride in our work and hand craft each site - nothing more than a text editor is used for all HTML and programming. This means that we can concentrate on precision and economy of code, and efficiency for the end user. Our more sophisticated products involve site content loaded from databases, site content management systems, and shopping carts.

It is our belief that sites should be good to look at and simple to use. Such apparent simplicity is driven by sophisticated code behind the scenes, making the most of the modern browsers. We design with the following browsers in mind: Internet Explorer 5+, Netscape 6+, and Mozilla 1+. This covers just about the entire range of browsers currently in use out there. However if you need code written specifically for older less standard complaint browsers (e.g. Netscape 4) then let us know, we can do this too.

PLD can build any type of web site you can imagine (even using 100% Macromedia Flash if that is what you would like), so do talk to us about any concepts you have in mind and we will explore them together.

As we are based in Bristol, we would expect a face to face consultation with businesses based in the general area surrounding the city, although we have completed many international projects too so we can consult entirely by e-mail if necessary.

We offer an initial, exploratory consultation at no cost, which will be followed by a more detailed meeting where we get to understand your business in depth. This is important because we may be able to suggest and develop web site functionality that would streamline the way you work, and you may not have imagined.

Before commencing production work we will discuss a couple of different layouts and designs with you, and use the one you prefer, moving on to develop custom graphics to give the web site a truly professional look and feel.

The final version of the web site will be approved by you before it goes live, and then moved into the live area on our own server. We do not rent space on someone else's server, we own our own, so we are in control of your final web environment.

Continuing development

Once your site is live, of course we can still alter content upon request, or if you require extensive and constant revision, do ask us about our content managed sites, which are web sites every bit as elegant and sophisticated as all our work, but where you have simple control panel access to change the content yourself, as often as you wish, and in real time.
